“He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.”
How does it feel to know your very presence is an expression of God’s favor to your husband?
The Matthew Henry Bible commentary says of this passage that your husband, having found you, “has found a good thing, a jewel of great value, a rare jewel; he has found that which will not only contribute more than any thing to his comfort in this life, but will forward him in the way to heaven.”
The commentary goes on to say that you, as a wife, are a token of God’s favor, and a happy pledge of further favors; you are a sign that God delights in a man to do him good and has mercy in store for him.
The spiritual implications of a godly marriage are overwhelming. Underneath the ordinariness of day-to-day life, despite the pock-marked imperfections of two flawed human beings relating to one another in the most intimate way, your marriage is actually a sacred gift, an appointment of honor deserving impeccable, holy stewardship. This is part of the code of honor among Noble Second Wives, one we strive joyfully and thankfully to fulfill.
God chose a special gift for your husband.
And that special gift… was you.
